The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), has announced the launch of the new E-Way Bill 2.0 portal (https://ewaybill2.gst.gov.in), effective 1st July 2025. This move comes as a major upgrade in the E-Way Bill ecosystem to ensure business continuity, reduced portal dependency, and real-time interoperability.
Objective of the E-Way Bill System
· Under Rule 138 of the CGST Rules, 2017, the E-Way Bill is mandated for the transportation of goods valued above ₹50,000. Initially implemented to curb tax evasion and replace border check-posts, the E-Way Bill system provided digital tracking of consignment movement and improved logistics efficiency.
· The E-Way Bill 2.0 portal has been developed in response to feedback from taxpayers and transporters, seeking uninterrupted access to essential functionalities during technical issues or maintenance on the main portal.
· The objective is to allow cross-portal operations and provide a mirrored experience where users can work seamlessly across E-Way Bill 1.0 and E-Way Bill 2.0.
Inter-operable Services
Existing services available on Portal 1.0 | Additional services on Portal 2.0 |
· Generation of E-way bills | · Generation of E-way bill based on Part-A details entered by the supplier |

The following additional services will be available on the E-way Bill 2.0 portal for E-way bills generated on either portal (E-way Bill 1.0 or E-way Bill 2.0)
Key features
One of the key enhancements is that both portals will operate on a real-time synchronised architecture where,
· Any action performed on one portal will be reflected within seconds on the other.
· During the event of technical issue or during downtime of E-way bill portal 1.0 portal, users may perform all necessary operations on the upgraded portal
The enhanced services will also be available to taxpayers and logistics operators through Application Programming Interface (API) for seamless integration.
